In May I went to Missouri for a visit. Dad seemed to have adjusted
well to his new surroundings. Since he's in Lee's Summit now, it
made it easier for us all to get together for a meal. Dad seemed
to enjoy the visit with all of his surviving kids. He told us a
wonderfully funny story of losing his dentures in the commode. Seems
that he accidentally dumped them in and couldn't grab them fast enough
so a plumber had to be called. After the plumber got it all taken
apart, there they were........smiling up at him! Someone asked
him, "You didn't put them back in your mouth did you?"
and he said not until after Marilyn had BOILED them!!! For 97
years old, he's in pretty good shape, a little unsteady on his
feet and sometimes a bit confused, but the rest of us should be so lucky
to be in his shape at 97!
I especially enjoyed being able to visit with my sister-in-law, Bonnie,
on this trip. My childhood memories are filled with her taking me places
with her and doing things for me. She gave parties for me and I remember her helping me bake a cake for Mother's birthday one
year. She took care of Dad when he was brought back up to the KC area.
We're so grateful to her for that. She lives close to Dad and Marilyn
and cooked us a fine lunch the last day that I was there. Dad even
got in the car and went down with us to eat at her house. He eats well
when he has some company. If you ask him if he's hungry, most
times he's not, but if someone sits down to eat with him, he's got a
pretty good appetite. He enjoyed himself until after lunch when he
realized that he had left his Skoal at home and needed to go right
away!
I went by for a short visit with Susie Cox. She looked great
and seemed in good spirits. She amazes me with her strength and
positive attitude. She sets an example for us all to try to follow. She
will have hip replacement surgery this month.

Dad's. Click on the thumbnails to see a full sized version and use
