After finding my mother's rough draft copy of  "The Hess Family in America", by Charles Hall recently, I became aware of the fact that a supplement to his book had been published in 1984.  I eventually came across the email address of Barbara Allison who wrote the supplement.  I contacted her in the hope that just maybe there might be copies of her book still available.  I was not surprised to hear that the book had been out of print for some time, as was Charles Hall's original book. I was surprised at her generosity in offering me what information she had.  Barbara gave me access to her files and permission to use her copyrighted book.

Barbara has worked tirelessly to post her book to her own website.  The link above is to her updated book.

After spending some time looking through Barbara's files, I am amazed at the thoroughness of her research and the concise manner in which she presents her information. I have learned much from her and have come to admire her work greatly. Barbara truly enjoys research.

A word of gratitude must be said for the work of Charles Hall.  He has worked tirelessly to preserve the Hess ancestry for generations yet to come.  Were it not for his book, "The Hess Family in America", I would know much less about my family history. My mother's little copy gave her much pleasure and I will treasure it always.  His book was the basis for Barbara's later work, "Supplement to the Hess Family".

Even the background for this page is a special "Hess" project.  Barbara tells me that the art was done by Jean Hall, graphic artist and wife of Charles Hall. She used Jean's art in her book. I thought that it might be fitting to use a little of it here.  I hope that she won't mind.

Charles and Barbara, a personal thank you from me and my family for all your hard work and for letting me share it with other "Hesses" who want to learn more about their ancestry. ~ Linda ~
